In March 19th, 2018, Computer Engineering and other study programs in Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (UI) welcomed Prof. Dr. Ir. Geert Leus from TU Delft for his general lecture. It was held in CHevron Room, Dekanat Bld. 1st floor in the Faculty of Engineering, UI. Prof. Geert Leus’ talk is entitled “Statistical Inference through Sparse Sensing”.
In this era of data deluge, it is paramount importance to gather only the data that is informative for a specific task in order to limit the required sensing cost, as well as the related costs of storage, processing, and communicating the data.
The main goal of this talk is therefore to present topics that transforms classical sensing methods, often based on Nyquist-rate sampling, to more structured low-cost sparse sensing mechanisms designed for specific inference tasks, such as estimation, filtering, and detection. More specifically, Prof. Gert Leus presented fundamental tools to achieve the lowest sensing const with a guaranteed performance for the task at hand.
