Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia invited Prof. Ray-Guang Cheng as a speaker for a short course on “Pioneering 5G Research in IoT Era”, at 18th – 19th July 2018. The purpose of this seminar is to encourage people about 5G research in IoT. As we know that 5G is still being developed in Indonesia and not to mention that IoT is the hottest topic in Technological expertise nowadays. This short course is held during Prof. Ray-Guang Cheng’s visit for World Class Professor (WCP) program 2018 for research collaboration with the research team in UI which is lead by Prof. Dr. Ir. Riri Fitri Sari, MSc. MM, one of full professor in Computer Engineering Study Program, Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia. He visited the Department of Electrical Engineering for 2 weeks since 15th July 2018.
Professor Ray-Guang Cheng is a well-known full professor from Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST), Taiwan. He holds IEEE Wireless Communication Professionals and many other awards and global recognitions.
The 1st day of the short course, which is held on Multimedia’s Room of Department of Electrical Engineering building started with a pep talk to motivate the student by telling his personal experience while being a student. Professor Cheng taught us a lot about life experience especially as a student, he told us about his previous work before becoming a Professor. After the pep talk and stuff, the Professor is beginning to tell us a topic about 5G and IoT. He’s educating us about the hardware and software used to build an IoT system and how the communication protocol works in that IoT System.
On the 2nd day, He told us about the project which he currently working on or he had done back on His University, NTUST. He’s telling us the detail on the current project about OpenAirInterface 5G. He also educates us about how to make the system and the detailed matter on the project, and the problem he’s currently facing on the project.
